Students from Ebbsfleet Academy and North Kent College create Manifesto Banners with artist Katrin Albrecht
Artist Katrin Albrecht worked with students at Ebbsfleet Academy and North Kent College, as well as the members of the public during our Open Day at Castle Hill, asking them to imagine their ideal garden city – what would it look and feel like? What would be there? What natural element would need to be there to make it perfect for them?
To create their banners, Katrin and the students created a list of ideas for the new Alkeden park, which included dog parks, nature trails, mural art, local markets, graffiti walls, mini farms, wooden houses, and waterfalls.
Drawing from Katrin’s experience as a flag-maker, they then used a cut-and-paste method, in which bits of unrelated fabric can be patched together to make a whole, to create manifesto banners that evoke the feeling of a summery flower meadow, full of ideas for their ideal garden city.
